The African Development Bank has launched its new initiative to partner with the African Union to strengthen Africa’s capacity to produce medicines, vaccines, research and treatment in a cost-effective supply chain, to help strengthen its pharmaceutical sector.

The African Pharmaceutical Technology Foundation (APTF) is the focus of a conference organized by the African Development Bank under the theme: “Access to technology for pharmaceutical manufacturing: The African Pharmaceutical Technology Foundation”. Changing conditions to enable African countries to develop their pharmaceutical production capacity responds to public health, strategic and economic issues. “This new plan comes as a solution, since most [African] countries are still struggling to receive [medicine] on time,” said Dr. Yvan Butera, Rwandan Minister of Health said. The foundation, sponsored by the Rwandan government in Kigali, is expected to start operations in early 2023. In his opening remarks, Mr. Solomon Quaynor, Vice President for the Private Sector, Infrastructure and Development at the African Development Bank Group, said that Covid-19 has exposed gaps in the system.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has exposed the weaknesses of the global health system and the gaps in the production of critical medicines on the continent. He added, “APTF is a game-changing institution that will increase Africa’s access to technology support drug production.”

Presenting APTF at the event, Prof. Padmashree Gehl Sampath, Special Adviser on Medicines and Medical Equipment to Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the chairman of the African Development Bank Group, emphasized that the foundation was designed to help African countries fill the technological gap in sustainable national development.

Teacher. Sampath said, “Pharmaceutical companies in Africa have three different barriers to access technology: access to technology and related knowledge for production, collection of domestic resources for technology development and lack of access for diversified and vertical product development. There are many technical risks that need to be paid to build the pharmaceutical sector in Africa, including abandoning product-by-product routes that put African companies at risk. 온라인카지노

The foundation will also act as a forward-thinking media agent and advocate for the interests of the African pharmaceutical industry at the global level, to improve access to proprietary technologies, skills and related production processes, through licensing and other non-commercial marketing. – market-based behavior.

The WHO, the Organization for Epidemic Preparedness, the Geneva South Center and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development have expressed a strong interest in working with the Foundation in the coming year. Another speaker, Professor Carlos Correa, director of the South Center, Geneva, said that it is important for Africa to have its own system that will make its pharmaceutical industry grow.
