Not everyone likes gambling, but everyone likes gambling movies. They are usually very exciting, risky, and offer the same risk-free excitement.

There are many great casino and gambling movies out there, but we’ve put together a list of the top 5 movies you can watch right now on Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Rounders (1998)

Rounders is popular for being the ultimate poker movie, and it’s not surprising given the stars who starred in it. Matt Damon, Edward Norton, John Malkovich, John Turturro, Gretchen Moy.

The movie follows the two friends (Damon and Norton) who are looking for a big win to pay off their large debt.

If you’re wondering about the name of the movie, the term rounder describes a person traveling around from city to city seeking high-stakes card games.

We follow McDermott, Damon’s character as he trying to manage school, a relationship and his love for gambling. Eventually, we watch him as he tried to earn his stake for the World Series of Poker.

The movie initially got mixed reviews but after the poker-crazy in the 2000s, it quickly became a cult classic. You can stream Rounders on Netflix.

Oscar and Lucinda (1997)

The director based this film on the award-winning novel by Peter Carey, one of the exciting Australian films about gambling by Gillian Armstrong.

The movies start world-famous actors and actresses like Cate Blanchett, Ralph Fiennes, Ciaran Hinds, and Tom Wilkinson. The movie depicts the story of Lucinda, a wealthy heiress whose parents died when she was really young.

As a child, Lucinda was given a Prince Rupert’s Drop, which then leads her into developing an obsession with glass. Moreover, with the money he inherited, he decided to buy a glass factory and later began gambling through his accountant.

Oscar, who abused children, is an Anglican. His gambling first started during his studies and ultimately enjoyed tremendous success.

He uses this money for his education and gives the rest to the poor. Hence, the two meet on a boat as Oscar tries to convince Dawn that gambling is not a sin. After that, Oscar and Lucinda continue to play cards together and eventually form a bond.

Casino (1995)

This next one is also a cult classic. A spectacular crime film with the direction of legendary Martin Scorsese starring Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone and Joe Pesci.

The writer based this film on a non-fiction book “Casino: The Love and Honor of Las Vegas,” written by Nicholas Pileggi, who co-wrote the film with Scorses. The film follows De Niro’s character, Sam “Ace” Rothstein, a gambling expert who is brought in to oversee the daily casino in Las Vegas.

We also get to know Stone, a chip shop down the street. Together, they deal with the difficulties of Ace’s new job, threats.

From the mafia and deteriorating relationships as Las Vegas has changed over the years. Nonetheless, the movie is available on Amazon Prime.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)

This classic movie is a little different from the others we’ve mentioned so far. The film has connection to the Hunter S. Thompson novel of the same name.

A classic in its own right, starring Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro. Furthermore, the film describes the dynamic duo’s journey through Las Vegas. As they slowly give up their initial journalistic intentions.
